or the first time in United States history, a Black woman is serving on the United States Supreme Court. On April 7, 2022, the Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to become the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. She was nominated in February by President Joe Biden for her exceptional cre- dentials, unimpeachable character and unwavering dedication to the rule of law. Judge Jackson has been interested in law since she was a toddler. In a 2017 lecture, Judge Jackson traced her love of the law back to sitting next to her father in their apart- ment as he tackled his law school homework - reading cases and preparing for Socratic question- ing - while she undertook her preschool homework - col- oring books. This love fol- lowed her into college, where despite criticism from her high school counselor, she was accepted into Harvard University where she studied government and graduated magna cum laude. She later went on to attend Harvard Law School, where she gradu- ated cum laude and was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.
