Patrisse Cullors
Patrisse Cullors has served as a longtime ac- tivist and artist. Cofounding the Black Lives Matter organization in 2012, in response to the death of Trayvon Martin, Cullors has worked on advocating criminal justice reform since she was 22 years old, expressing her thoughts through film, theatrics and novels. At the time, Cullors is using social media to speak out against police brutality and is serving a source of information to various news outlets.
Colin Kaepernick
Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick first gained media attention when he kneeled during the National Anthem in an attempt to speak on racial injustice. Having faced a lot of controversy, Kaepernick lost his position in the NFL but continues to work as racial equality activist, showing great support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Kaepernicks kneel has now become a symbol of peaceful protesting for racial equality, being demonstrated by protesters around the world in support of racial equality.
Michael B. Jordan
During a protest in Los Angeles, actor Michael B. Jordan called for the film industry to invest in black staff. Jordan called for film studios to be more inclusive and demanding of diversity. I use my power to demand diversity, Jordan announced, but it's time the studios and agencies and all these buildings we stand in front of to do the same. In this same speech, Jordan also encouraged listeners to support black businesses and to register to vote.
Porsha Williams
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Williams is no stranger to the civil rights world. The granddaughter of Civil Rights Activist Hosea Williams, Porsha has been participating in civil rights campaigns since she was six years old. Being encouraged by her grandfathers acts, Williams has recently participated in diversity-based panels online, shared her experiences in interviews, posted resources on social media, participated in Atlantas protests, and has encouraged the other housewives to put aside their differences for a bigger cause.
Barack and Michelle Obama
Former U.S. President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, gave separate virtual commencement speeches to the class of 2020 to encourage a form of activism that goes beyond internet hashtags. The Obamas encouraged the graduates to help their friends register to vote, participate in protests, and to cease the opportunity to make a difference.
Anthony Anderson
Along with online activism, actor and Black- ish star Anthony Anderson joined peaceful protesters in front of Los Angeles Hall of Justice. There, Anderson gave a speech on ways in which community can better support their black citizens. Anderson emphasized the need for citizens to register to vote and participate in large-scale and especially local elections.
