Flooring Installers:
Flooring installers and tile and stone set- ters lay and finish carpet, wood, vinyl, tile and other materials. They are essential to just about any building space and have a steady predicted job increase of about six percent between 2020 and 2030. Education: Flooring installers and tile and stone setters typically need no formal educational credential. They learn their trade on the job, sometimes starting as a helper or assistant in the industry. Work Environment: Installing flooring, tile and stone is physically demanding, with workers spending much of their time reaching, bending and kneeling. Most work full time, although schedules may vary. Pay: $47,310 annually (as of May 2021) Outlook: About 11,000 openings per year
Boilermakers:
Boilermakers assemble, install, maintain and repair boilers, closed vats and other large vessels or containers that hold liquids and gases. The industry is predicted to stay at a steady pace with little to no change during the next 10 years. Education: Boilermakers typically learn their trade through an apprenticeship program. Work Environment: Boilermakers do physically demanding work. They may travel to worksites and be away from home for extended periods. Pay: $64,290 annually (as of May 2021) Outlook: About 1,300 openings per year
Electricians:
Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical power, communications, lighting and control systems. The industry is growing at a slightly faster pace than average with predicted growth of nine percent over the next 10 years. Education: Most electricians learn through an apprenticeship, but some start out by attending a technical school. Most states require electricians to be licensed. Work Environment: Almost all electricians work full time. Work schedules may include evenings and weekends. Overtime is common. Pay: $60,040 annually (as of May 2021) Outlook: About 84,700 openings per year
Ironworkers:
Ironworkers install structural and reinforcing iron and steel to form and support buildings, bridges and roads. They maintain an average increase of job openings, with an average of six percent in the span of 10 years. Education: Most ironworkers learn through an apprenticeship or on-the-job training. Work Environment: Ironworkers perform physically demanding and dangerous work, often at great heights. Workers must wear safety equipment to reduce the risk of falls or other injuries. Pay: Between $48,830-$58,550 (as of May 2021) Outlook: About 10,100 openings per year
