Negro League Baseball Players to Officially be Included in the MLB
From the early 1920s to the latter half of the 1940s, Black American baseball players were barred from playing on Major League teams. Until Jackie Robinson joined the Dodgers in 1947, Black American players had to play in the Negro Leagues which produced some of the greatest names in baseball history such as Willie Mays and Satchel Paige. Now, nearly eighty years later, the records of the Negro League playerswillfinallyandiciallybeincludedintotheMLBsicial statistics, adding over 3,000 profiles to their records. For historical merit, today is extraordinarily important, Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum said in a statement on announcement day, Having been around so many of the Negro League players, they never looked to MLB to validate them, but for fans and for historical sake, this is significant; it really is.

Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson Take on Two Oscar Firsts
The hair and makeup department for the film adaptation of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom achieved an Oscars first this year when Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson became the first black women to ever win an Oscar for makeup and hairstyling. Neal and Wilson were also the first black women to ever be nominated for the category. Mia Neal was the head of the hairstyling department and created over one hundred wigs for the production and Jamika Wilson has worked as Viola Davis' personal hairstylist for over ten years. The two women won the award along with Davis' personal makeup artist, Sergio Lopez-Rivera. I want to say thank you to our ancestors who put the work in, were denied but never gave up, Neal said in her acceptance speech, And I know that one day, it won't be unusual or groundbreaking; it will just be normal.
